B.C.’s Boler-based businesses

Travel trailers—they aren’t just for travel anymore—Boler owners have gotten creative by turning their beloved campers into mobile businesses.

Need some inspiration? Here is a list of four B.C. Boler-based businesses.

Icelabs is a new Boler-based business, selling shave ice around the Chilliwack area. The young owner purchased and renovated the camper on his own, completely reconfiguring the layout to fit a deep freezer, a fridge, and shave ice machine. I had the privilege of visiting and getting a look inside of his labor-intensive reno. The project was extremely ambitious, but the hard work has paid off.

Local ice cream slingers, Alice & Brohm started out in a renovated Boler. The mobile business model was convenient for taking their product to local parks or various farmers markets. They have now moved to a brick-and-mortar store in Squamish and continue to rent their Boler as a food truck for events.

Little Bean + Co. was a converted 1975 Boler that housed a baby boutique. After a successful first year at pop-up events, they too moved to a permanent store front in historic downtown Abbotsford. The 13’ Boler was a great size for the mobile baby boutique and was able to house a wide variety of brands. After a few successful years, the Boler was de-converted into a camper once again when the owner sold the business.

Based in Fort Langley, Tracey of Once Upon A Caravan rents her fully renovated trailer for wedding, photo, and event back drops. Not only does she provide the trailer, but an arsenal of décor to elevate the scene. "I love photography and vintage trailers and it just seemed like the perfect fit” Tracey told me. However, due to COVID-19, she has yet to recoup the cost of the initial purchase. Thankfully, things have started to pick up and she’s been hired for several photo shoots.

As you can see, trailer rentals are anything but the only option for your camper. The size and custom features that can be retrofitted into a Boler make it a fantastic option for entrepreneurs that don’t have the money for a full-blown store front. In addition, the unique nature of Bolers make any business stand out from the competition.
