The First 48: Ideas and Dreams

I heard time and time again from seasoned trailer owners that before I change anything I need to spend some time in my Boler. Will I still want to change out the blinds? Do I really need an awning? I guess its time to find out!

Big Dreams

Before I even laid eyes on my trailer, I knew she needed a paint job. Not only exterior, but also interior. The two town yellow, while funky in its own right, was not the vibe I envisioned. Not only that, I was hoping to add shelves to the closet, take out the cooking element, remove the hood fan, change the countertop, add blackout drapes, and lay some vinyl flooring. What about some new lights, or a solar panel? Oh, and of course replace all the Boler Brand stickers once its painted. That's a pretty heft list of thinks to do! Not only do I not have the budget for it, absolutely none of it is truly necessary. The trailer is completely camp-able and secure, so anything I change is purely for looks. So, after my first camping trip, I decided on the changes that I felt were most important and tossed the others to the cutting room floor (for now).

Whats the Game Plan?

Sadly, some of my dreams were just outside the budget. My new approach was to maximize the effects of smaller, cheaper projects. Thankfully, the previous owners re-did the upholstery—one less project for me! But, what else could I do with my limited budget? I plan on cleaning and repairing the ensolite; removing, polishing and fixing the jalousie windows; removing the cabinets and shelves put in by the previous owner; and otherwise getting the Boler to a clean slate. There is so much of the trailer that we can preserve and I look forward to restoring it to its original retro beauty, with a modern twist. Interested in following along? Boler Tip:

Seriously, if you have bought an Egg Camper, spend a few nights in it before you make any major changes. Not only could you find other things that will need immediate attention, you might also like some of the quirkier elements of the trailer that you were planing on replacing.
